Teaching Successfully at the Year 0/1 Level
Teaching in a Year 0/1 class takes special skills.
If you are teaching at this level, this workshop will be applicable to you and will cover the following aspects:
Expectations at school entry
Preparation for students as they start school
What systems and routines are important?
Structuring the day in a junior class
Practical strategies to support oral language including phonics, phonemic awareness and vocabulary
Teaching reading, writing and math – what’s important?
The importance of explicit handwriting instruction
Why we need to read to students EVERY day
Supporting English Language Learners at the foundation level
Providing a literate environment

This online workshop will be facilitated by Andy Butler.
Andy has extensive experience with teaching and leading at the Year 0/1 level, including recently teaching a New Entrant class for terms 2,3 and 4 in 2025.
Suitable for anyone who is new to teaching New Entrants/Year 1, Beginning Teachers, Overseas Trained Teachers or teachers who are returning to the workforce.
